November is here, and Guyana has handed everyone a job: be a host. Guyana Tourism Awareness Month 2026 opened on 31 October with a theme that says it plainly, “Tourism Is Everybody’s Business.” Whether you live in Georgetown, run a guesthouse in the Rupununi or are flying home from Toronto or New York for the holidays, this month is built for you to take part.

Here is what is planned, when it happens and how to join in.

What Guyana Tourism Awareness Month 2026 is about

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues launched the month on Saturday evening, 31 October, at the Aiden by Best Western Hotel in Georgetown, according to the Department of Public Information. The idea behind the theme is simple: a visitor’s trip is shaped by everyone they meet, from the taxi driver and the market vendor to the hotel desk and the neighbour giving directions.

The minister also pointed to the capital’s fresh look and the role of clean, welcoming streets. “We are pleased to see Georgetown transform,” she said at the launch.

The month arrives on a high. According to figures reported at the launch, Guyana recorded 360,623 visitor arrivals by September 2026, about 10 per cent more than the same period last year, and officials are projecting more than 500,000 visitors by the end of the year.

What is planned this November

According to the Guyana Tourism Authority’s Director Kamrul Baksh, as reported by DPI, the month will lean on public engagement and digital promotion. The announced programme includes:

  • Discounted domestic travel packages, aimed at getting Guyanese to explore their own country.
  • A tourism mascot to front the campaign.
  • Room for public creativity, with citizens invited to put their own spin on the national theme.
  • A Tourism Village at GuyExpo 2026, 12–15 November.
  • A media familiarisation trip to Essequibo.
  • New tourism products, to be unveiled during the month.
  • Promotional engagements in London and Brussels, carrying Guyana’s story to European travellers.

Specific package prices, the mascot’s name and exact dates for most of these activities had not been published at the time of writing. Keep an eye on the Guyana Tourism Authority and DPI channels for details as they are released.

GuyExpo 2026 and the Tourism Village

The biggest public date on the calendar is GuyExpo 2026, Guyana’s long-running trade and investment exposition, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce. This is its 31st edition.

  • When: Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November 2026
  • Where: National Exhibition Centre, Sophia, Georgetown
  • Theme: “Creating Tomorrow’s Opportunities Through Today’s Investments”
  • Admission (as of November 2026): G$1,000 for adults and G$500 for children, per person, per entry
  • Opening hours: to be announced on the GuyExpo website closer to the event

Inside the grounds, the official GuyExpo site lists both a Tourism Village and an Amerindian Village, where visitors can experience Guyana’s culture and destinations. There are also two food courts, a children’s area and a main stage with nightly entertainment. Parking is available inside the grounds, with vehicle entrances on the Eastern Highway.

How to take part

If you live in Guyana: watch for the discounted domestic packages and plan a trip you have been putting off. Our guide to Guyana’s national parks and reserves and our round-up of eco-lodges in the interior are good places to start dreaming.

If you are visiting or coming home: time your trip for GuyExpo week, walk through the Tourism and Amerindian Villages, then eat your way through the food courts. Our Guyanese food guide will tell you what to order first.

If you run a business: the theme is your invitation. Good service, a clean storefront and a warm welcome all count. GuyExpo also takes vendor registrations through its website.

If you are in the diaspora: share Guyana’s story. Post about the places you love, recommend local guides and makers, and tell friends abroad why they should visit.
