Renting a car is the easiest way to explore both the Dutch and French sides of St. Maarten / St. Martin. Here are rental companies we have checked, from locally owned firms to international brands, with pickup options, age and deposit rules, and maps.
Leisure Car Rental
Leisure Car Rental is a locally owned St. Maarten rental company with its main office on Airport Road, just outside Princess Juliana International Airport. It is popular with visitors who want an island-based team rather than a call centre, and it can hand over cars at either airport or at your hotel.

- Traffic drives on the right on both the Dutch and French sides of the island.
- Book early for the December to April high season, when cars can sell out.
- Compare deposit rules: some local firms accept cash deposits, while international brands usually need a credit card in the main driver’s name.
- Check where you can collect the car. Some companies deliver to your hotel or to Grand Case airport on the French side.
- Allow extra time around Simpson Bay and Philipsburg at rush hour and on busy cruise days, especially when heading to the airport.
